RAD Ballet Exams

At DMR, Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Ballet exams are an optional opportunity for students to set goals and celebrate their progress.
To ensure a positive and successful experience, students will only be entered for an exam when their teacher feels they are confident, technically ready, and fully prepared. This approach helps build a strong foundation and sets each dancer up for success.
RAD offers different assessment types, and your DMR teacher will decide which will be best to showcase all of the student’s hard work.
Graded Exams: These exams, assessed by a RAD Examiner, are designed to showcase all that has been learned throughout the year. Must take the class twice a week.
Class Awards: These are conducted by the class teacher and are assessed by a RAD Examiner through observation of the performance in a class-like setting.
Solo Performance: Available from Grades 1 – 5, candidates are assessed through performing three solo dances.
All students receive a medal and a certificate for their achievements.
*Please note that examinations are open to both male and female dancers. Candidates may take any Grade without having passed the previous examination. Vocational dancers (Intermediate +) must have passed the previous exam. There are minimum age requirements.
