Annoucement

2020 has been a strange year for us all and I would like to start by thanking you all for the support, commitment, and understanding you have given our small school over the last few months.

Staffing

As you are all aware, Ms Helen, after being with DMR for many years, has relocated back to the UK. She has left us with fond memories, heavy hearts and we will miss her greatly.

I have been at DMR since August 2015 as a Modern, Tap, and Junior Ballet teacher, and from the beginning of July 2020, I have taken on an additional role as Studio Manager, which I am very excited about.

Ms Sylvie will not be teaching our ballerinas this year but will hopefully be back soon for some contemporary workshops! Her Contemporary Ballet class this summer was very successful and was great to explore a new style. Ms Christina will continue to work with our senior ballerinas and Ms Erica is always on hand if you have any queries.

Summer

We had a blast during the Summer! The classes were great fun, and it was refreshing for us all to try out new dance styles and further our creativity. Choreography Camp was a definite highlight: we put on a performance of Hercules and created our costumes, made our scenery, compiled the storyline, and choreographed all the moves. If you would like a copy of the recording, please let me know.

By mid-July, as a result of the heightened government restrictions, we had to move some of the classes onto ZOOM. Although not the same as seeing the students face-to-face, they were also great fun (though I did feel a bit silly dancing in the studio on my own)! It was lovely to see our lovely students’ smiling faces, and I miss you all so much.

Next Term

As we go into this new academic year please make sure your contact details are up to date. We will continue to give additional updates to our students (Pre-Primary and above) via WhatsApp. Could you also let us know if you require new dance shoes so we can order them as soon as possible.

Safety measures in class: When we do open our studio for classes, we will continue strict implementation of all the Covid safety measures that are necessary to ensure the health and well being of our students and teachers.

ZOOM

As most of you know from recent closures, we will continue offering the classes on ZOOM, if we need to close the studio at any point. We will not be offering refunds for the graded classes as it is simply not sustainable for our small school, but we hope the students will continue to join the classes online ( see new Terms and Conditions).

Consistency and repetition are essential for dance, to improve technique and confidence. We know this is not the same as being in the studio but please understand that we want the best for our students. I believe that it is difficult for some of you to dance at home, however, absorbing information in any way will help with the students’ understanding of technique so I hope they can at least join what they can as well as listening to our teachers’ corrections and tips. Every effort will be made to choose “home-specific” exercises and we will be recording any future ZOOM classes and will send you a link so they can participate at your convenience.

Historically, we have gone out of our way to give extra classes and we have no intention of changing that policy. We will do our best, taking each situation as it comes, to offer make-up classes when the school can re-open! (Likely on Sundays).

Shows and Examinations

Sadly, it is unlikely we can put on a performance this year (2020). We will continue to work on our dancers’ performance skills and hopefully, we can re-evaluate and perhaps put on our spectacular Annual Performance at the end of the academic year.

We hope to take part in the RAD and ISTD exams this year! We will be working towards these when we get back to the studio which is a great goal for our dancers. In this uncertain climate, it is even more essential that our dancers are consistent and keep a steady structure with us throughout the year.

Finally

I am keen to know your thoughts on our community school by letting me know what has worked well for you, what you’d love to see more of as well as any enhancements you can suggest. Feel free to contact me with any enquiries and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

I miss you all greatly!

Ms Rhianna
